Sparkling remarks from beside the rink

02
01

As it is the season, a lot of people do ice skating, and I enjoy it a lot. I am no gold medal winner, but my skills are solid. Nevertheless, there are those jerks beside the rink who actually think they can shout silly remarks at those skating. Here are my favourite two and my answers:

  1. Don’t fall down!! My answer: I suppose you would fall on your butt with the first toe touching the ice. You would then be happy to have some proficient skater to save you and get you back to where you belong -)
  2.  That was nothin. I can do a lot better… My answer: Sure…come to the ice and show me your toe loop and your double axel. And keep your mouth shut -)

Such nerds cannot only be found near the skating rink but also in other areas of life, such as school, work etc. Most of them will learn from one or the other downfall and then see that it is better to learn from others and themselves…

Escaped the flu

I feel it in my forehead, I feel it in my nose

The flu is all around me, and so the sneezing goes

Viruses in the wind, they are everywhere I go

So if you really love me, please don’t come too close…

(Slightly adapted lyrics from “love is all around”)

The office at work is half empty and when in the train, everybody is coughing, sneezing and looking like they were about to faint. I almost got there too, but luckily managed to escape the bacteria around by taking tons of Vitamin C and anti-headache pills.

On Friday I played my first chess tournament. It is a series of tournaments extending over a period of 8 months. There were very good players in the field, but I think I did well and even did win one game. That was surprising, because the other player is so much better than yours truly. This is the second time I find myself achieving higher goals when I am having a cold or fighting against it.

Anyway, I am practising to to well in the next round, too. -)

Confused (aka. Daniela’s time zone)

Today the clocks were turned one hour back due to that dailight saving time thing. And silly me, for the first time actually, made a chaos of it.

Normally, the PC performs the change of time automatically, and normally, it notifies you of it. This morning, I switched it on and saw no notification and thought, it had not changed. Including, I visited my Google starting page, and the clock there, which normally shows the same time as my time zone, showed a time one hour earler than my computer. So I changed the time of my computer one hour back, wondering why my TV had not changed yet. It was 11 am then (for me) -)

When walking outside I saw the clocks on the train station I thought: Why didn’t they change the time? They are one hour too late -) Not one second I even considered thinking that I might be wrong, no…

The mystery was solved when my brother called and asked where I was, because I was supposed to be at my parent’s house at half past five. I replied, I did not understand the question, because it was only by 4 pm then. Well, it turned out it already was 5 pm… What a shame. They have to introduce the “Daniela time zone now” -)

7 days…

You are afraid of your TV? And of small girls with long black hair hanging over their faces? You refuse to answer the phone? Then, obviously, you have been ringified (shiny new neologism, by the way -) ) Back in 2003, a friend told me about that certain film and she claimed she could not sleep with the lights switched off after seeing that film. Before, they even joked about calling that friend who had been with them to the movies, and whisper: 7 dayssssss…

I borrowed the movie on a DVD, after having caught a flu and being required to stay at home, and at first I was not well aware, what I was seeing.

The next night I saw my dark pullover hanging by my white closet (Imagine how much darker blue looks at night…). Then suddenly I was afraid to walk into the living room to get my mobile phone, because it was night and….right…..the TV was in there, too.

In the morning I thought: “This cannot be true. I am a fool, I must be one”.

Tonight they are showing it on German free TV for the first time. I already told my colleagues at work to watch it because they have not done so yet…and no, I have not got their phone numbers -)
