Islaperdida.net was the first domain I ever registered after sticking to a free domain. And there is a story behind it….

The beginning

It was by the end of 2002, when I made my first attempts to create a webpage. I did not start in Beepworld, like many people do, I did not even know that it existed. I just borrowed a tutorial book from my father about HTML and typed some pieces of code into the notepad to see if it worked in a browser. And when it did I was happy. Later I downloaded a trial version of Frontpage Express and started creating pages in it. Still, I had only very few knowledge about HTML and was furious, when an image was not where I wanted it to be but I did not know how to fix the problem.

Nevertheless, I was proud of beeing able to create some linked pages and to upload them to a freeserver.

In 2004 I first tried to create imagery for webpage purposes, which did not work very well, and the two layouts I created during that year, were, let us say, rather minimal;-)
For a long time I lost inspiration and stopped dealing with webpages, until in 2005, I began thinking of coming up again with a new website and a domain of my own.

It must have been the inspiring atmosphere of Gran Canaria Island but also some very nice people there who encouraged me in my work, lended me their books and helped me to fix CSS problems and weird navigation structures. (Thanks a lot for all that, without you, this place would not be like it is).
And so I regained ideas and inspiration.

Today

In the beginning of 2007 I decided to turn Islaperdida.net into a mere blog again and to take off the downloads section to another website that will be kind of my portfolio. The other site will host my curriculum, wordpress themes and site designs and layouts. Islaperdida shall remain my little lost island on the web to tell you about the world around me.

The Domain

In the mentioned year 2005 I wanted to start my new website with a new domain name. I have had some ideas before, but did not quite like them anymore. The decision for a domain name should be made carefully. (Whats the use when after some weeks you do not like it anymore).
One day, when crossing one of the noisy streets of Las Palmas, I saw a bus passing by. It had a place called Islaperdida as its destination. I did not know why, but I could not get that name out of my head the following days. It sounded romantic and interesting. By the way, Islaperdida means “lost island” in English. And so on June 27th I registered Islaperdida.net and it always reminds me of the fantastic time I had there.

For layout number four I wanted to have fotos of bus 44, and friends of mine volunteered to help me making them (Thanks Dácil and David). So everybody went to Santa Catalina Park one afternoon to take the fotos. When the bus finally arrived, the whole thing started. The conductor inside looked rather puzzled, he looked as if he regarded us some crazy tourists wanting a photo for whatever purpose. It was a lot of fun this August 15th, 2005.
