My desk

First of all, thank you for the comments! I am amazed…and returned comments, except for those sites not being acessible.
This week my desk, which served in its function for over ten years, moved into my new apartment. My father brought it and we built it up again right before the living room window. Now I will not have to sit with my laptop on my knees again. Never. See the photo below.
My desk

These times, it is not usual to own things for a long period of time. Many things break after a short time without any possibility to repair them and many things are sorted out because the colors do not match anymore, the clothes do not fit anymore, or there are better items that replace them. Books for example will be replaced regularly by new issues, and a computer gets older every second. The new ones are faster, have more disk space and also a better operating system. For now, I cannot think of any other item that is more timeless than a desk. Originally, I wanted to buy a new one, but the ones I found were to expensive, and they did not have sufficient space for storage. The ones that had sufficient space, looked so cheap that I feared they would break down. So I stayed with my old desk and I am pretty content. It still fits my room and I can store a lot of things in it.

Nowadays we live in a use, throw away and replace-community. There’s always something new and better. I have a few piece of furniture that I’ve had for many years. For example my dresser I got when I was like two years old. It’s really pretty and will be even prettier once I’ve painted it blue instead of red. A thing I like is buying second hand furniture. In that way things don’t need to be thrown away and for me the furniture I buy are new, even if they’re actually twenty years old.

I like you desk. For some reason it look vintage, and I love vintage things. My grandpa built bookshelves around his house, and it sorta looks like your desk. So I think it’s very nice. My desk is not that old and the keyboard sliding thing is not working anymore. I can honestly say that your desk is better than mine D

The desk looks great! I’ve certainly never had a desk for ten years, but I think it’s nifty that you’ve been able to hold onto it for that long. It must be one awesome piece of furniture! *lol* I was lucky to find myself a good sturdy desk, thanks to Staples. Unfortunately, I’ve realized that it’s just too large and takes up too much space. I’m thinking of building something to the wall - I guess we’ll see how well that goes. XD

    Enjoy your desk!

Too true. today we replace old things so fast, and without giving them a second thought. I have a lot of stuff from my younger days still, and I would be sad if I lost them, as they all meant something to me at one point in my life, and still do now, years later.

Awshucks. Your layout is too cute )

pfft, it’s true, we all do replace stuff too quickly, and before it’s done it’s time. but my bed is 100 years old. i think that’s dragging it out a bit o_o

Aw that’s so sweet! I completely agree except for me, it’s my God Box. I keep everything in there that’s important to me including the corsage my daddy gave me at our first and only father daughter dance and the rose from my grandma’s funeral.

I remembered when I had to use my laptop on the bed, it was such a pain on my back. Congrats on the desk!

i’m looking into getting a new desk. i need one with either some type of locking drawers or a hutch (i have a 19 month old son that LOVES to pull things out of drawers). right now i’m using this cheap ikea desk with NO drawers and i have crap all over my desk….

I definitely know the feeling of having no desk and having to deal with awkward positions. When I moved back into my apartment, I had no desk since my ex was using it for his laptop. Imagine trying to use a desktop computer on the floor!

Ahhh~ that’s nice you were able to take your old desk with you. My desk was too big and had to stay in my old room at my parents’ place. My parents bought me a waaaay smaller one for my new room, but it’s manageable D Still I must admit, I also use my laptop on my bed :P

I think desks are one of those few things that are completely timeless :P No worries, I usually don’t use my desk for my laptop though lol. Unless I am doing school work, otherwise I sit nice and comfy on my bed with it in my lap (such as I am doing right now). I love your desk though, as well as the drapes/curtains behind them )

You really have a neat desk, and I’m saying it mainly because I have a desktop, and mine looks so messy. You’re right. A desk is a classic in its own right. )

This is totally random, but I like the curtains in your picture )
