But I agree that colour schemes are important for a website's look and feel. The most amazing websites out there have effectively incorporated catchy colours or sombre ones to suit their site's theme and content. Personally, I prefer working with white..it just looks good on screen coupled with other softer and vibrant colours. I don’t use wordpress so I can’t help you with that.
