Of PCs and nostalgics

On thursday evening, my PC gave up working. He had been strange quite a lot of times and everytime it had to do with the bootfrequency of the PC. First Windows froze, and then, when rebooting,it saidd that the PC had been booted with a false frequency. All the last times I changed the frequency to 133 for the 800 MHZ processor but this time it did not work out. Instead, after booting a couple of times, windows does not start at all. I talked to some people and they all said it was some problem with the PC itself and maybe with the mainboard. The fact is I cannot access my data, I was lucky having saved the important docs on my USB stick.

In his lifetime, the PC also caused problems when recording CDs. Including the PC was not really mine, a friend lend it to me, saying it was reliable but the fact is that it let me down.

There I was, burst out in tears, because supposedly all my data are gone, and even if I fix it, who knows what comes next?

So yesterday I made the decision to buy myself a notebook, and now I can work properly.

By the way, talking of nostalgics, I have another PC, an older one, which was given to me by my father when I started university, just to have something to write my homework on. It has 2GB of harddisk and no USB slots, but it works fine and is very reliable. I connected it to see if it worked still, because it had been unused for one year. It worked fantastic and I looked through the data to see what I had left there.

There were some of my first homepage designs ever and many university things. The CD unit contained a CD I had missed. I got a little bit nostalgic looking at the PC.

Thanks to everyone for the nice comments concerning the new layout

The job interview went well, but I am not too sure of it as always….

AND a small message for my brother: Spam messages are deleted!

It’s awful when the computer dies at the most inopportune times - when you haven’t saved everything you need. I suppose there’s no hope for data recovery? Or perhaps that may cost too much. Nostalgia, indeed! I browsed through my laptop a few months ago, and there were designs from over 3 years ago, at the very beginning of my venture online. Designs brought back memories, but I find what I wrote positively embarassing.

Computers always die right before you get to save everything. I hate that. I got a laptop now and I love it. I need to start saving stuff to a memory stick or something so I never lose it.

My laptop does like to have times when it freezes almost to the point of frustration; however unlike your problem mine does work after a reboot. I do truely empathise though, as the computer before my laptop wasn’t exactly all to be desire for. I do believe that was because of my disgusting habits of installing programs and not doing a manual installation.

Oh what’d be like to rummage through that computer again. But I do usually transfer all of the things I use on a previous computer to a new one; so it’s more than likely I would have deleted some of the files. Nostalgia is sorely missed; it’s nice to go back and see your beginning as a web designer.

Good luck with getting the job! And the layout is very nice, it reminds me of a raspberry ripple ice cream.

The problem with technologies these days - they aren’t really stable. I have been having problems with my laptop as well so.. I’m in the process of getting a new hard disk. Good luck with yours. )
