First real steps towards MySQL
05
In one of my previous posts, I told that I had bought me a book to learn more about PHP and MySQL.
This weekend I found another book and I somehow managed to install MySQL and PHPMyadmin, which was quite a struggle, but after doing the tests provided in the book to look if the installation works, it did.
Yesterday I entered some data into a table, and called up this data via PHP.
ops:
Because the installation of Apache Server, PHP MySQL and Perl results difficult for many people, a team called Apache Friends
launched a distribution named XAMP, which enables the easy installation of Apache, MySQL, PHP and Perl. The download is free, and installation instructions are provided also. The site is viewable in German, English, French and Chinese.
If I had known this before, maybe the way would have been easier. A big thumbsup to people who launch programs freely to help people getting easier access. Wordpress is another example. This wonderful tool is free to download and use, and it is simply wonderful!
Concerning downloads and freely offered scripts: There are sites which offer free scripts for mailing etc. and these programs are used by many people. The sad thing is, that some folks think that they can distribute them on their site and claim it to be their own. It is a slap in the face of those who worked a lot to make this offer possible. What we should do is say thank you to the people who are offering free scripts and things and give credit to the proper owner for any program we are using after having downloaded it.
The holy grail is not steeling ideas from others, and claiming work of others as our own, but to learn things ourself, work ourselves and producing our own results.
Talking of the holy grail: Next week I will hopefully see The Da Vinci Code in cinema. Currently, there are a lot of reports on TV about it, and even similar films of german production are shown. I saw one film but it appeared strange to me. Now my expectations for the Da Vinci Code are rising.
Yesterday I borrowed Lauberge espagnole as DVD and watched it. I liked the first one better, because it contained more funny scenes.
The first part I highly recommend for everybody who is a student and is planning to study one or two semesters abroad. The rest of the world will have its fun too watching it.

Odd. When I took my Data Management module, I wasn’t taught how to install SQL! We were simply given a program called WAMP Server to install into our laptops and PHP and MySQL was immediately included. :S
But then again, at least you know how to do it manually. :P So next time if I have any problems, I know who to approach!
Hee.
PHP, MySQL and all that other smart people stuff is way to complex for me. I tried to learn once so I could learn to skin my site and…let’s just say I failed.
I plan on seeing the Da Vinci code before it leaves theatres. I started to read the book but never got around to finishing it so the movie will maybe spark my curiousity for reading the book again. Who knows.
